The Long Awaiting Talented QB Has been ”CONFIRMED” 49ers $29.67 Million Deal….
Star defensive end Nick Bosa tackled quarterback Brock Purdy and expressed admiration for his journey only minutes after the San Francisco 49ers completed an incredible comeback to win the NFC championship.
In less than 22 months, Purdy has gone from “Mr. Irrelevant” as the final choice in the 2022 draft to an MVP finalist and starting quarterback in the Super Bowl.
This’s become one of the most unbelievable draft success stories in living memory, and aside from Purdy, who never wavered in his belief that he could succeed if given the chance, it appears to surprise almost everyone.
Purdy remarked, “People might ignore you or might not believe you’re the biggest, fastest, or strongest.” “However, you can succeed if you have faith in your abilities, think you can succeed, and persist in your efforts without giving up.”
The 49ers did not place much emphasis on quarterbacks going into the 2022 selection, but they were hoping to select one in the late rounds to develop into a backup. Trey Lance was selected third overall by the Niners last year after they had traded three first-round picks for him, with the intention of making him the starting quarterback for the team.
During Purdy’s four years as a starter at Iowa State, Scout Steve Slowik became attracted by his poise and production, which made the coaching staff take notice of him. Having given Purdy a mid-round grade, coach Kyle Shanahan was sold, with assistant coaches Brian Griese and Klay Kubiak ranking him as the best of the late-round alternatives.
However, the Niners dedicated the first several hours of that draft day to strengthening the secondary and trenches. After that, it was time for San Francisco to make the decision that All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams has likened to winning the Powerball lottery with their last choice, which they received as payment for losing C.J. Beathard to free agency.
Despite receiving limited playing time in team drills behind Lance and seasoned backup Nate Sudfeld, Purdy made an instant impression on his coaches and teammates upon his arrival.
Just one week into training camp, Purdy’s performance was good enough for Shanahan to inform owner Jed York that he might already be superior to players like Lance, Sudfeld, or Jimmy Garoppolo—players the organization was hoping to trade before bringing him back that season on a lesser pay.
When Purdy replaced an injured Garoppolo in Week 13 of the previous season, Shanahan immediately proved to be prophetic. Before sustaining a catastrophic elbow injury on the first drive of the Niners’ NFC championship game loss at Philadelphia, he had guided the team to victories over Miami that day and seven straight games as a starter.
In the offseason, Purdy had surgery, and the Niners asked Tom Brady if he would like to play another season. The Niners fully committed to Purdy after Brady’s choice to stay retired made that plan futile.
Since I took over last year, they have had faith in me, Purdy remarked. “I feel like we’ve all grown together over the course of the year, and I feel really fortunate to have these guys in the locker room with me. They’ve supported me through the good times and the bad. This year hasn’t been without its challenges, and not everything has been pleasant.”
Nevertheless, some detractors have attempted to minimize him by referring to him as a “game manager” or “system quarterback” who is being carried by his excellent teammates and innovative coach.
Shanahan takes offense to it, stating that the first two things a quarterback needs to do are manage the game and run the scheme. Purdy, however, goes above and beyond.
