The main productive player for the Browns requested a contract termination, explaining.
It could prove to be a score for the Cleveland Browns if the free agent market is unkind to Joe Flacco this offseason.
With the hopes of earning a chance at a starting position someplace, 39-year-old Flacco will test the waters as a free agency this summer. But a general manager who asked to remain anonymous told Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com that he doesn’t think teams will be clamoring for Flacco.
According to Pluto, “We got on Joe Flacco and he thought the market for Flacco will be limited” on his podcast “Terry’s Talkin.” Turnovers in today’s football are the red flag against you, despite the staggering stats. Guys that mishandle the ball are disliked by them. Finding that out relieved me since I thought we would not have a chance against Flacco. He anticipates they certainly would.
Throughout the regular season, Flacco ignited the Browns’ offense with four victories from his starts and 1,616 yards and thirteen touchdowns passing. However, turnovers posed a problem. Throughout his five appearances during the regular season, he threw eight interceptions. During a crushing 45-14 Wild Card victory over the Houston Texans, he tossed two more touchdown passes. Both were brought back for scoring runs.
It would come as no great surprise if Flacco did not get much interest. Ultimately, like the previous season, he remained seated on his couch until the Browns called in mid-November. He did demonstrate, though, that he still had it, but perhaps not enough to secure his first professional position.
Under former general manager Andrew Berry, the Browns have not shied away from investing on a backup quarterback. As dependable backup quarterbacks in Cleveland, Case Keenum and Jacoby Brissett were two veterans who earned respectable wages.
The Browns decided to name freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson the backup quarterback after shipping out Joshua Dobbs prior to the season’s commencement, which changed everything. With Watson missing just six games because of two shoulder problems, the Browns unfortunately had to deal with the worst-case scenario at quarterback.
