This seasoned caddy has been handpicked by Tiger Woods to provide support for woods at the Genesis Tournament.
The Genesis Invitational at Riviera, a PGA Tour cornerstone event that Woods hosts, is where he will make his 2024 debut this week. Unveiling what he mentioned in December as the upcoming “chapter” is the first item on the agenda.
By year’s end, Woods and Nike had been together for 27 years. At the PNC Championship, where he played alongside his son Charlie—who was dressed by a different clothing company—he donned the swoosh on his shirt for the very last time.
Playing host of the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour this week, Tiger Woods is back in action. For quite some time, that has been expected. However, since Joe LaCava moved in with Patrick Cantlay, who will be on the bag for Woods now?
According to information obtained by Golfweek, Woods has selected seasoned caddie Lance Bennett for the coveted Riviera job. Having won a tournament with Bennett in 2012, Woods is well acquainted with Bennett from his time spent caddying for Matt Kuchar.
In addition to playing on the LPGA with Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, and Juli Inkster, Bennett has recently been on the bag for Sungjae Im and Davis Riley. His full-time employer this season is Belgian golfer Adrien Dumont de Chassart, a rookie on the Tour who was second at Illinois and won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour, winning KFT Player of the Year last year.
Bennett may easily jump to Tiger’s bag because Dumont de Chassart, sometimes known as ACDC for short, is managed by the same organization as Woods and isn’t in the field this week. Although rumors suggest that Tiger may switch around caddies, it is probable that Bennett will be carrying Tiger’s bag at the Players Championship and the Masters as well.
When asked if he might tote his bag, Tiger Woods did not rule out the idea of his son Charlie becoming his sidekick in the future. Rob McNamara, Tiger’s longtime business partner and vice president of TGR Ventures, caddied for Tiger at the Hero World Challenge in December and could fill the role again.
After pulling out of the Masters after missing the cut in April, Woods is making his maiden start on the professional Tour. Woods has stated clearly that he intends to play a limited schedule centered around the majors. However, how much he plays this season will depend on his health.
