Essendon Super Star Darcy Parish Will no longer play for the tournament, as Doctor presents report that he has….
Due to a hamstring injury sustained during training last week, Essendon has ruled star midfielder Darcy Parish out of Saturday’s thrilling season opener against Hawthorn.
The community is also questionable for the Bombers’ round two match against Sydney at the SCG, but Ben Hobbs, the third-year on-ball player, will be allowed to start in Parish’s place.
“the city injured his hamstring during practice last week, and although there were initial expectations that he would be able to play against the Hawks on Saturday, additional medical evaluation on Tuesday verified that he will not be able to play in the round one match,” a Bombers representative stated.
As he heals from a chronic foot ailment, Dylan Shiel has been designated as a “test.” However, because he missed both of the Bombers’ preseason games, it seems unlikely that the 31-year-old will play at the senior level again.
With his recovery from a hamstring issue, versatile defender Jake Kelly is fit to play against the Hawks. He might provide support to a back six that is without Jordan Ridley, who Essendon anticipates will be in the running for a spot by round four.
Wednesday is Jeremy Howe’s fitness test, which he will take in an attempt to make it back in time for Collingwood’s game against Sydney on Friday night. Meanwhile, the Magpies announced that Nathan Murphy has resumed contact training in an effort to play again after suffering his tenth concussion in the 2023 grand final.
A club statement from Tuesday stated, “Defender Nathan Murphy has started a return to contact program aimed at building confidence in match play scenarios.”
The 24-year-old is making good progress with this, however it’s not yet definite that he will be returning.
The rebounding defender Harry DeMattia (broken finger) is projected to return to action between rounds eight and eleven, according to the Magpies’ approximate return date estimate.
After an 11-month absence, star forward Tom Lynch is cleared to return for Richmond, which will make at least four changes to the team that lost to Gold Coast in the opening round.
Lynch, along with Dustin Martin, captain Toby Nankervis, and small forward Rhyan Mansell, have all been approved to play their first games since suffering a major foot injury in the fourth round of the previous season on Thursday night against Carlton. Coach Adem Yze stated last week that it was not worth jeopardizing his stars in their first two games with only a five-day break in between. As a result, Nankervis (foot) has been given the go-ahead despite missing the Tigers’ preseason games.
After Lynch passed a final fitness test at Punt Road on Tuesday, vice captain Jayden Short declared that having the forward back in the lineup would be “awesome.”
