Just in Vikings Confirm the departure of their top super star due to……..
Since the Kansas City Chiefs have been so successful for so long, they have virtually always been predicted to win, therefore Patrick Mahomes has had to create the chip he wears on his shoulder for the majority of the last six years.
The Chiefs moved from being the weekly favorite to something quite different: an underdog during a season in which they struggled mightily on offense and at one point lost five of eight games. Rather of giving them up, they turned into the team that was awarded the points when the betting lines were revealed, and that chip on Mahomes’ shoulder just naturally materialized.
Mahomes said, “It kind of lit a fire under some guys, especially yourself.”
That the two-time league and Super Bowl MVP would feel the need to prove himself is a ridiculous idea.
However, Mahomes has performed just that in the postseason, where he has had his finest game of the year. Without throwing an interception, he passed for 241 yards and a touchdown in Baltimore, doubled down with 215 yards and two scores in a divisional victory in Buffalo, then completed 262 yards and a touchdown in a chilly wild-card win against Miami.
The Chiefs were underdogs at kickoff in the previous two games, and that is probably how it will be this Sunday in the Super Bowl in the gambling hotspot of Las Vegas, when they take on the 49ers. Sportsbook indicates that San Francisco is a 1.5-point favorite on average, but that figure could alter before kickoff.
To win the Super Bowl in all three of their final games, just five teams have defeated the favorite in that particular year.
Notice that we understand the reasoning behind it. The Chiefs’ coach, Andy Reid, said, “We understand, that much.” Our team has always been strong when facing challenges, even though we may not be the most appealing group.
We’re not bothered by it, I believe. Reid said. We accept that things are the way they are.
The Kings appear to actually like playing against the favorites.
He surely does. over quarterbacks with at least 10 starts—postseason included—he has the highest winning percentage (9-3) against the spread over the previous 15 seasons. The number-one pick at 9-5 is Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, an opponent whom Mahomes defeated in the AFC title game a little over a week ago.
The Chiefs have actually been winning more recently the larger the underdog. After Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback, they have been at least 3.5-point favorites in five games, and they have won four of them handily. They covered the spread in their lone defeat, which came in an October 2018 game against the Patriots as 4-point underdogs. The game ended in a field goal.
